AllPeopleBeHappy Event in Portland, Oregon: On August 15, 2010, the AllPeopleBeHappy foundation hosted an information session at the Portland Central Library. Speakers included Justin Hanseth representing Village Health Works (VHW) and Dennis Carlson with The Kossoye Project. Each described the sustainable agriculture projects undertaken by their organizations. In Burundi, Justin headed the effort to create gardens and nurseries, to introduce new and more nutritious food sources, and to teach recovering patients from the medical facility in Kiguta on how to grow their own food in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. In the Kossoye region of Ethiopia, Dennis’ organization has been distributing seeds through the elementary schools for the many home gardens. The program also includes various efforts by Community Health Workers, monthly coffee talks for the women in the community, cooking contests, and a cookbook to be published. Many thanks to Justin and Dennis, and to Beulah Downing who assisted Dennis with his talk. We also wanted to give a special thank you to the Portland Central Library for allowing us to use their beautiful facility.
