AllPeopleBeHappy Provides Emergency Funding to Sunsar Maya to Respond to Crisis with Compassion in Nepal

In the wake of widespread political unrest across Nepal, thousands of families are facing growing uncertainty as businesses close, jobs disappear, and essential services become increasingly difficult to access. The economic disruption has hit vulnerable communities especially hard, placing women, children, and families already living below the poverty line at even greater risk of hunger and hardship. Through its Emergency Relief for Vulnerable Families in Nepal initiative, Sunsar Maya is preparing to provide immediate assistance that will help families weather this crisis while protecting their health, dignity, and wellbeing.

With support from AllPeopleBeHappy, Sunsar Maya will provide daily meals to students attending its three community centers while distributing emergency food packages and essential hygiene supplies to families in need. The project is expected to directly support approximately 1,200 people between October 2025 and January 2026, ensuring that children continue to receive nutritious meals and households have access to basic necessities during a time of severe economic instability. By responding quickly, the organization aims to reduce the immediate impacts of food insecurity while helping families maintain stability throughout the ongoing crisis.

While this initiative is designed as an emergency response, its impact extends beyond short-term relief. Sunsar Maya will leverage its trusted community relationships and established local infrastructure to identify families with the greatest needs, monitor their wellbeing, and connect them to continued support through its existing education and community development programs. When political unrest and economic instability swept across Nepal in late 2025, the effects were felt most deeply by families already living on the margins. Rising food prices, widespread job losses, and increasing uncertainty left many women, children, and vulnerable households struggling to meet their most basic needs. Thanks to support from AllPeopleBeHappy’s Emergency Fund, Sunsar Maya was able to respond quickly, providing emergency food assistance and essential supplies to families facing the greatest hardship. By working through its trusted community centers and longstanding local networks, the organization ensured that relief reached those who needed it most—when they needed it most.

Over the course of the project, Sunsar Maya provided daily meals to 350 students while delivering emergency nutrition packages and essential supplies to approximately 1,530 individuals across 350 households. The assistance helped families maintain access to nutritious food during a period marked by lost income, rising costs, and widespread financial instability. Beyond meeting immediate needs, the project offered families a renewed sense of security and hope, easing financial pressure while protecting the health, dignity, and wellbeing of some of the community’s most vulnerable members.

The project also reinforced the power of locally led emergency response. Because Sunsar Maya has deep roots within the communities it serves, staff were able to quickly identify families with the greatest needs, coordinate with trusted local vendors, and adapt as conditions changed. Although rapidly rising food prices caused total food expenses to exceed the original grant budget, the organization remained committed to ensuring that families continued receiving consistent support throughout the crisis. The experience also strengthened Sunsar Maya’s emergency response systems and demonstrated the importance of flexible funding during times of economic uncertainty.

Perhaps the project’s most lasting impact is the resilience it helped foster.
